St. Joseph Hospital New Construction Project

Building Our Future Together

There is perhaps nothing more precious than good health. And the health of those who live and work with us, who raise their families, or who visit here, is as precious as our own.

St Joseph Hospital serves people throughout Humboldt County and has grown tremendously since the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange arrived nearly a century ago. With the dramatic changes in the way health care is delivered, and advances in medical diagnosis and treatment, the current facility is in need of an expansion to better serve the community. After careful review of the needs of the community, the St. Joseph Health System determined that the New Northeast Tower will become a reality. It is the first phase in the Blueprint for Excellence plan, to better serve our community well into the future.

Background
The new tower located in the northeast section of the hospital campus, will be three floors totaling 100,000 square feet. Building links will connect the ‘52, ’78, and ’97 buildings to the new Northeast Tower. The new expansion, scheduled to be completed in November 2010, will include the following departments and services:

Lower Level
• Emergency Dept. with 20 treatment bays
• New reception and waiting area for patients and visitors
• Relocation of Central Sterile Department
• Emergency Dept. Imaging – with CT scan; Radiology; and Ultrasound
• Staff Lounge

First Floor
• Surgical suite – with (8) operating rooms & Catheterization Lab
• (17) Prep & Recovery beds
• (10) PACU beds (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
• New Main Entrance/Lobby & Waiting Area
• Relocation of Patient Food Services
• Relocation of Gift Shop
• Staff Lounge

Second Floor
• (12) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds
• (40) Patient Care Beds
• ICU Waiting room
• ICU Nurse’s Station
• Second floor lounge

Funding the New Northeast Tower
The estimated $118 million cost of the new expansion will be funded by loans, net income, reserves and a match by the St. Joseph Health System - for every dollar we receive from donations, the health system will match up to $12.5 million. So when we ask people to pledge or donate to the campaign, their donation is doubled because of the match. We hope that residents and businesses of the Humboldt County Community that we serve, as well as charitable foundations that support this community, will take part in supporting the new hospital expansion.
